From marathon to triathlon – How one athlete found her way
The triathlon section of SG Arheilgen (SGA) has around 180 members, about half of whom actively participate in competitions. In addition to its recreational sports program, the club also offers a platform for ambitious athletes. Press officer Kathrin Ortland spoke with Nadine Silvia Krisch, who quickly transitioned from marathon runner to triathlete .
From marathon to triathlon – getting started in the three-discipline sport
Ortland: Nadine, since when have you been a member of the department?
Krisch: Since November 1, 2021.
Ortland: How did you get into triathlon?
Krisch: I've been running marathons since 2018. However, no competitions took place during the Corona years of 2020 and 2021. My boyfriend is a professional triathlete , and in 2021 we attended many competitions in Austria , which had already been able to resume earlier.
That motivated me to try it myself. I signed up for the 3sathlon , but at the last minute I also joined the 10-Friends Triathlon – both races are sprint distances. Since I was always the last out of the water and had to chase after everyone, I decided to learn to swim freestyle at the SGA (Sports Club ). I'm doing quite well at it now.
Sporting background and first long-distance
Ortland: What sports did you do before triathlons?
Krisch: I've always done a lot. I've always enjoyed sports. I children's gymnastics, swimming, and ballet, and I started riding horses when I was eight or nine .
Later, I added rope skipping , ballroom dancing , cheerleading with the Darmstadt Diamonds (American football) , and finally cheerleading with SV Darmstadt 98. In 2017 , I discovered endurance sports , and just a year and a half later, I ran my first marathon. Since 2021, I've also been doing triathlons.
Ortland: You even finished a long-distance triathlon . That requires a lot of training. How do you manage to combine that with your job?
Krisch: I probably don't have any more time than other full-time employees . I work in human resources development for a water supplier – four days in the office, one day working from home.
It all comes down to good time management . I often cycle the nearly 20 kilometers to work on my gravel bike to integrate training directly into my commute. I do my running and swimming training either early in the morning or late in the evening coach to help me plan everything in a structured way .
Goals for the next season
Ortland: Nadine, will you tell us how old you are?
Krisch: I am 36 years young .
Ortland: And what are your next sporting goals?
Krisch: I'm currently planning my marathon and triathlon season . A spring marathon is in the works, and the Frankfurt Marathon in October competing Frankfurt Ironman again in 2025
