The Hessian State Sports Federation calls for participation – Together for fairness, cohesion and exercise
On Tuesday, May 20, 2025, it's time again to put on your jersey and show your support for club sports . The Hessian State Sports Federation (lsb h) is participating for the third time in the nationwide Jersey Day , an initiative of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). The aim is to highlight the achievements of sports clubs and send a strong message about the social value of club sports.
“Sports clubs connect people and promote team spirit, fairness and commitment,” emphasizes lsb h President Juliane Kuhlmann. “Jersey Day brings these values to the streets – visibly and effectively.”
Everyone is invited to participate
Getting involved is easy: Whether you're a student, working professional, or retiree – on May 20th, all club members should wear their jersey, shirt, or sports outfit at school, at work, or in public. Businesses, government agencies, and political representatives are also encouraged to participate.
Jersey Day is supported by many sports associations and educational institutions throughout Hesse. The aim is to raise public awareness of the importance of club sports – and to inspire more people to embrace exercise, health, and community .
Prominent athletes show their faces
Also present are well-known competitive athletes with roots in Hessian club sports:
- Bobsleigh Olympic champion Laura Nolte (BSC Winterberg): “The club was my springboard – with team spirit and support from the very beginning.”
- Brakewoman Deborah Levi (TV Dillenburg): “Friendships and the joy of sport have sustained me.”
- Rower Marc Weber (RSV Steinmühle Marburg/GRC Hassia Gießen): “Clubs are like a second family.”
- Track and field athlete Eileen Demes (TV 1861 Neu-Isenburg): “The pride of representing my club motivates me every day.”
Club sports need attention and support
Jersey Day is also intended to highlight the challenges many clubs face: a lack of volunteers, increasing bureaucracy, and sometimes dilapidated sports facilities. At the same time, clubs make an important contribution to health, integration, and social cohesion .
Participants can share their support by posting a photo in club clothing under the hashtag #Trikottag on social media.
