Dryness and lack of rainfall increase risk - grill spaces are already closed
In view of the dry weather conditions of the past few weeks, the Darmstadt regional council warns of a significantly increased risk of forest fires in southern Hesse. Despite the fresh season, the urgently needed precipitation is largely failing to do - barbecuing has already been blocked in many places.
"The rainfall in the past few weeks was significantly below the long -term means. This led to the fact that the risk of forest fire has noticeably tightened - especially in the South Hessian region," said the regional council. Even without official triggering alarm levels, local authorities can already take further measures- such as the closure of grill or fireplaces. The first municipalities have already implemented this.
Man as the most common cause of the fire
Almost all forest fires arise from human misconduct - be it due to arson or by carelessly throwing cigarettes. A general ban on smoking applies anyway in Hesse's forests. Grill spaces and fireplaces near the forest have already been closed in many places due to the increased risk of fire.
The regional council calls for increased caution: access roads to forests must always be kept free, since they serve as emergency routes for fire brigade and emergency vehicles. Parking and holding bans near the forest must also be observed. If you notice smoke or fire in the forest, you should immediately choose emergency call 112.
