Reached over 3,400 people – diverse activities and offers planned for 2026 as well
With World Environmental Education Day approaching on January 26, the municipal services department (EAD) of the City of Darmstadt is drawing a positive conclusion regarding its work in the areas of waste management consulting and sustainable development for the year 2025. This conclusion is based on the City of Darmstadt's waste management concept, which the EAD has been implementing for years through numerous information and participatory initiatives.
City treasurer André Schellenberg acknowledges the commitment of the municipal enterprise: The EAD makes a visible daily contribution to cleanliness and hygiene in the city and at the same time takes on important tasks in the background, such as educational work on waste separation and recycling, especially for children and young people.
Wide range of services for citizens
In 2025, the EAD (Eberstadt Waste directly reached around 3,400 people . These included recycling days in the Lincoln settlement, in Eberstadt and Wixhausen, the Environmental and Family Day, repair cafés, and tours of the company premises and the composting plant. Additionally, EAD employees provided information about waste separation, recycling, and sustainability at external events such as the "Clean Eberstadt" campaign week, the "Market of Opportunities" in the Lincoln settlement, the "Go.Bio.Fair" environmental exchange, and readings at the city library.
For the first time, the EAD also organized a workshop for housing associations, property management companies, and service providers to provide information on the proper separation of waste, bulky waste, and electronic waste, and to prevent illegal dumping. In addition, the EAD provided waste management consulting services on several occasions on behalf of housing associations and other institutions, including in the Lincoln settlement.
Environmental education from kindergarten to school
Another focus in 2025 was environmental education. Through waste sorting games, sorting analyses, and so-called environmental kits, the EAD (Energy and Waste Management Authority) playfully introduced waste-related topics to kindergartens and schools. Furthermore, the authority supported numerous waste collection campaigns, particularly those organized by kindergartens and schools, by providing materials and handling waste disposal.
The EAD also participated again in the environmental and leisure education program "Darmstadt Environmental Diploma"
Continuation of the offers in 2026
For 2026, the EAD plans to continue its existing services and to further disseminate its knowledge about waste separation and recycling at various events. Up-to-date information is available on the official website and via the EAD's social media channels.
