Emergency services train for realistic scenarios before building demolition
The Weiterstadt Volunteer Fire Department conducted a training exercise on Saturday, May 16, 2026, on the grounds of the former McDonald's in Rudolf-Diesel-Straße.
The former restaurant building is currently being demolished as part of deconstruction work. A new branch of the Schäfer bakery is planned for the site.
Building used for training purposes before demolition
According to the city, Klotz Vermögensverwaltungs eGbR made the vacant building available to the fire department for training purposes before its final demolition.
The emergency services were able to practice various realistic scenarios and train procedures under practical conditions.
The exercises included, among other things, rescuing people, opening doors, breathing apparatus emergencies, and the use of ladders and jump cushions.
Mayor thanks fire department and property owners
Mayor Niklas Gehnich also visited the exercise on site.
“My special thanks go to the Klotz company for their uncomplicated support and to the Weiterstadt fire brigade, which is also committed on weekends to be as prepared as possible for emergencies,” explained Gehnich.
Such exercises in existing buildings are particularly valuable for fire departments, as they provide important experience for real-life emergency situations.
