Bensheim, Heppenheim and Zwingenberg invite you to the 36th edition of the "longest wine tasting in the world"
On May 1st, the South Hessian Bergstraße is once again the destination for tens of thousands of hiking fans and wine lovers: The 36th Bergsträßer Wine System hike leads through the picturesque vineyards between Zwingenberg, Bensheim and Heppenheim - and is considered the "longest wine tasting in the world".
As in previous years, the entire route is shown as a uniform event area with admission controls. The aim is to protect the family atmosphere and avoid excesses. Bringing alcohol and dangerous objects is prohibited - non -alcoholic drinks can of course be carried. Toilet facilities and garbage containers are available along the route.
Six wine stands and a souvenir glass
At six official trial stands, visitors can only enjoy mountain streets wines, secco and sparkling wine . If you buy a drink for the first time at one of the stands, you will receive a stem glass as a souvenir , which can then be used on the entire route. Bottle deposit is two euros.
Also this year there are free hiking passes with which participants aged 18 and over can take part in a raffle for vine vouchers at at least five stamps.
Safe hiking thanks to adapted route
In order to make the paths even safer, the route was partially changed:
- The route leads this year through the Bensheim city park .
- Bachgasse in Bensheim remains closed for car traffic during the event.
- The event on the Wambolder Sand takes place this time on the Bensheimer Marktplatz .

Public transport and special timetable
special traffic is set up on bus line 670/669 (Alsbach - Heppenheim) . Between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., the buses run every 15 minutes (outside of the main times every hour). The section from Heppenheim station towards the south is operated every hour. not be approached on May 1st .
Voices for the event
District Administrator Christian Engelhardt , patron of the event, emphasizes: "The wine migration hike is a figurehead for our region and an excellent opportunity to experience mountain chestnight wine and hospitality." Johannes Bürkle from the winegrowing association also underlines the importance of the event and praises the new security concept.
Christine Klein , Mayor of Bensheim, appeals to the visitors: "Please dispose of waste in the proposed containers and respect the closures and information along the route. This is the only way to continue and responsibly the wine migration."
