A creative course at KAGEL showcases sustainable ideas made from old fabrics
On Saturday, April 18, 2026, a workshop on textile upcycling will take place at KAGEL – Kaufhaus der Gelegenheiten (Department Store of Opportunities) in Darmstadt. From 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., instructor Olena Oliinyk will demonstrate how to create new everyday objects from old clothing.
From old to new: Creative ideas in focus
The workshop will demonstrate, among other things, how to make a bag from a T-shirt or a cushion from a shirt. In addition, smaller accessories such as pendants or brooches will be a focus, which will be designed together.
Participants can bring their own materials or purchase them on-site at KAGEL. Materials used include fabrics, wool, and beads, which are combined in new ways during the creative process.
Open offer for all interested parties
This course is aimed at adults of all ages, from toddlers to seniors. No prior knowledge is required. The instructor provides practical guidance and support in implementing your own ideas.
People with experience in knitting, embroidery, or sewing are also invited to exchange ideas and work together in the group. Sewing machines are available for making bags and cushions.
The workshop is free of charge and can be attended without registration.
