Girls from the DRK local association Eberstadt impress with team spirit and first aid skills
Darmstadt-Eberstadt. Their names are Emilia, Amalia, Tilda, Inka, Mona, Emilia again, and Sophie – and they are all involved in the Youth Red Cross (JRK) of the Eberstadt DRK local chapter . At the JRK national competition on October 10, 2025, in Oldenburg, the team achieved an impressive second place in their age group.
"The girls delivered an incredibly fantastic performance and were only 3.2 points away from first place," proudly reported JRK district leader Dominik Hotz and group leaders Regina Koch , Carsten Schlick , and Steven Hotz . Upon their return to Eberstadt, the successful participants were celebrated by their parents with garlands, balloons, and cake .
From district competition to national level
The group laid the foundation for its success in the spring: After winning the JRK district competition in the DRK district association Darmstadt-Stadt e. V., they also won the state competition and thus qualified for the national final.
"The national competition was the most challenging," explains Steven Hotz. "It is strictly regulated, and the children had to solve all the tasks independently – without the support of their supervisors."
Demanding first aid tasks
The practical exams were in no way inferior to those of the German Red Cross national competition for adults : The young women from Eberstadt had to apply their knowledge, recognize emergency situations, and administer first aid independently in a fictitious soccer match with three injured players . The realistically portrayed scenes required both specialist knowledge and teamwork.
“In addition to their excellent first aid skills, our group was particularly impressed by their team spirit ,” emphasizes Hotz.
Learn, help and take responsibility
In the weekly JRK group sessions, first aid is in an age-appropriate and practical way . The children learn to act calmly in emergencies, take responsibility, and help in solidarity. Topics such as children's rights, diversity, and environmental protection on the agenda.
The Darmstadt Youth Red Cross also offers excursions, game nights , and the Youth Red Cross Summer Camp . Youth groups are available in the Arheilgen and Eberstadt .
