City calls for young people to run - application deadline ends on July 7, 2025
The science city of Darmstadt calls young people between the ages of 12 and 17 to actively participate in urban politics. This is made possible by the new youth plenum , which is part of the “with that!” was launched. The first election will take place on September 26, 2025 . Interested parties can apply until July 7, 2025, 6 p.m. - either as a candidate or the lottery.
"The youthplenum is an important instrument to make young democracy tangible, strengthen their self -efficacy and to counter anti -democratic currents," explains Mayor Barbara Akdeniz . Paul Georg Wandrey also supports the project: "Democracy is only accepted if the feeling arises that everyone can participate - especially young people."

The youth plenum will consist of up to 25 young people elected and 20 elected representatives from the districts. two members of the city student council are part of the committee. The members meet at least four times a year and work together in thematic project groups with urban decision -makers.
The term of office is an average of 30 months , but can be ended voluntarily at any time. The organizational accompaniment takes over the new coordination office for child and youth participation , a joint project of the youth ring Darmstadt e. V. and the youth education center of the science city of Darmstadt .
