Kotaro Fukuma and Michael Fürtjes will present a concert reading with music and poetry on September 18th
The 80th Dotter Concert on Friday, September 18, 2026, at 7 p.m. in Eberstadt will focus on Franz Liszt and his connection to literature. Under the title "Dante. Liszt. Petrarch. – Years of Pilgrimage between Sound and Poetry," pianist Kotaro Fukuma and Dr. Michael Fürtjes will present a concert reading that also includes a world premiere.
The starting point is Liszt's "pilgrimage years." After an extended stay in Italy beginning in 1837, the composer incorporated impressions from art and literature into his piano cycle. In particular, texts by Petrarch and Dante left their mark on his work.
80th Dotter Concert with piano and lyrics
Kotaro Fukuma prefaces his program "Pilgrimage Years" with the piano piece "God's Blessing in Solitude" from Liszt's "Poetic and Religious Harmonies." The concert reading begins with a "Homage to Liszt" by the composer Matthieu Stefanelli, which he dedicated to Fukuma in 2018.
Fukuma studied in Paris and Berlin, as well as at the International Piano Academy Lake Como. In 2003, he won First Prize and the Chopin Prize at the Cleveland International Piano Competition. He has performed in venues including the Gewandhaus in Leipzig, the Konzerthaus and Philharmonie in Berlin, as well as in Paris, Madrid, and Tokyo.
The texts will be presented by Dr. Michael Fürtjes. He received his doctorate for his work on the aesthetics of Friedrich Schiller and is involved in philosophy and literature.
