On October 22nd, bicycles can be coded at the 1st Police Precinct in Darmstadt without prior registration – some documents are required
The 1st Police Precinct in Darmstadt is offering bicycle coding for the last time this year on Thursday, October 22, 2026. Bicycle owners can have their bikes coded at Bismarckstraße 16 between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. No prior registration is required.
Bicycle coding is intended to make bicycle theft less attractive and to facilitate the allocation of stolen or found bicycles to their rightful owners.
These documents are required
For the coding process, bicycle owners must bring an identification document and proof of ownership. They should also have the most important information about their bicycle ready, including the manufacturer, model or type, and frame number.
Owners of e-bikes and pedelecs are requested to also bring their battery keys.
To reduce waiting times, the police recommend removing any attachments to the center frame before the appointment. These include, for example, bicycle locks or mounted containers.
Important: Bicycles with carbon frames are not suitable for this form of coding.
Bicycle coding complements theft protection
In addition to coding, the police recommend further measures to secure bicycles against theft. These include using robust locks and properly securing the bicycle to a fixed object. GPS trackers can also provide an additional security option.
Anyone who cannot attend the appointment on October 22nd can find further bicycle coding events in Darmstadt and the surrounding area on the website of the Hessian police.
