“Read im Ried” on October 22nd in the Wolfskehlen youth center – bring your own books and read in company
Reading together without having to talk: The Silent Book Club Ried invites you to another meeting on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 7:30 p.m. Under the motto "Read in Ried," book lovers will gather this time in the Wolfskehlen youth room at the Willi-Blodt-Bürgerhaus. Participation is free, and registration is not required.
The reading evening is being organized by the Faktotum bookstore from Riedstadt-Wolfskehlen in cooperation with the youth office of the Büchner city of Riedstadt.
One hour of reading – everyone reads their own book
The concept of the Silent Book Club is simple: Each participant brings a book of their own choosing and reads on their own for about an hour. Unlike traditional book clubs, there is no shared reading, no reading aloud, and no obligation to discuss what has been read.
“That’s the only rule, though. There’s no age requirement; readers of all ages are explicitly welcome,” explains Oliver Bopp from the Faktotum bookstore.
The relaxed atmosphere of reading together is precisely what makes these meetings so appealing. Those who wish can discuss books and reading experiences with other participants after the shared reading session.
From the Erfelden library to Wolfskehlen
The Silent Book Club Ried premiered in April 2026 at the Erfelden library. Readers met there again in September.
For further meetings, initiator Oliver Bopp collaborates with various partners. In addition to the Riedstadt municipal library and youth office, the Martin Niemöller School and the BüchnerBühne theater café have already participated.
The meeting in the Wolfskehlen youth center is intended to offer the service in a different location and reach more interested people.
An idea from San Francisco
The idea of Silent Book Clubs originated in San Francisco. The concept has since spread internationally. People also meet in German cities like Kassel and Darmstadt to read silently together.
The focus is not on discussing a specific book, but on the opportunity to consciously take time to read and share this experience with others.
