Darmstadt CDU criticizes the traffic light coalition's electoral reform
The CDU Darmstadt and the CDU Darmstadt-Dieburg see Dr. Astrid Mannes as a promising candidate for the Bundestag seat in the Darmstadt constituency. At the same time, the party sharply criticizes the electoral reform of the traffic light government, which, in their view, could lead to large urban constituencies no longer being represented in the next Bundestag.
"The new electoral law for the federal elections is not fully developed and could indeed lead to a situation where, in particular, large urban constituencies are no longer represented in the next Bundestag. That would be disastrous," explains Paul Wandrey, .
In a press release, the CDU Darmstadt and Darmstadt-Dieburg emphasized that there were other ways to reduce the number of representatives without risking constituencies being left unrepresented. The previous grand coalition had already reformed the electoral law by reducing the number of constituencies. The CDU criticizes the fact that this reform model was not first tested.
The party particularly criticizes the fact that the Darmstadt members of parliament, Andreas Larem (SPD) and Philipp Krämer (Alliance 90/The Greens), approved the reform. Furthermore, this abandons the long-standing political practice that electoral reforms should only be passed with broad consensus.
Optimism for Astrid Mannes in the final stretch of the election campaign
According to the CDU, current election forecasts (such as those on www.election.de ) show that Dr. Astrid Mannes has a good chance of winning direct mandate
“Even though forecasts are not yet election results, we are optimistic and will give it our all in the final sprint of the election campaign so that the forecasts of the last few weeks become reality and the Darmstadt constituency will once again be well represented in the German Bundestag by Astrid Mannes Lutz Köhler, chairman of the Darmstadt-Dieburg CDU district association .
