"Stork Quarter" in the Lincoln settlement is intended to ensure childcare
With the "Stork Quarter," the city of Darmstadt has opened a second temporary support center for childminders. Mayor Barbara Akdeniz inaugurated the new facility on Tuesday (September 29). It is located next to the "Am Quartiersplatz" daycare center in the Lincoln district and is now in use.
“With the Stork Quarter, child day care has another reliable and family-oriented building block available, which creates security of care and at the same time supports the networking of child day care providers and families,” Akdeniz explained at the opening.
Care in case of childcare provider absence
The Stork Quarter team collaborates with the neighboring "Am Quartiersplatz" daycare center. The new facility complements the "Stork Hill" temporary childcare center, which has been operating on Hügelstraße for three years. Both facilities are run by the "Tageseltern Tageskinder Vermittlung" (TTV) service, under the auspices of the Darmstadt Housewives Association.
The aim of the substitute childcare centers is to ensure childcare even when the regular childminder is unavailable, for example due to illness. This service is intended to provide parents with greater planning security.
“A substitute care center is a place for meeting, support, and community,” Akdeniz emphasizes. The collaboration with the “Am Quartiersplatz” daycare center enables synergies. At the same time, both facilities are important resources for young families. For the participating childminders, the substitute arrangement also means greater security and relief in case of their own absence.
Mobile representation is also possible
The city council commissioned the youth welfare office to develop a substitute care concept for child day care at the end of 2020. In 2021, TTV, under the auspices of the Housewives' Association, was contracted to implement the concept. Together with the childcare department of the youth welfare office, they developed an educational concept that is continuously being refined.
In addition to care provided at the two designated support centers, mobile support is now also available. Given suitable facilities, this can take place directly at the respective childcare provider's location.
“The services offered by the two substitute care centers are very well received by childminders, parents, and children,” explains TTV Director Andrea Langer. The second location will now allow even more childminders and families to benefit from the substitute care and networking services.
