Darmstadt creates climate report for the identification of heat hot spots and provision against heavy rain
To improve the urban climate, the Pallaswiesen and Mornewegviertel (PAMO) will be flown by helicopter in the summer months of July or August 2025. The aim is to create high-resolution thermal images in order to record so-called heat hot spots and create climate report The measure is part of the urban development program " social cohesion ".
The frame takes place from a height of about 300 meters at a particularly hot, sunny and windless day. Surface temperatures are documented on roof surfaces, courtyard and open spaces as well as in public space. The thermal data provide a basis for targeted measures for heat and heavy rain prevention and to improve the green structures in the neighborhood.
Measures against overheating and climate adjustment
Infrastructure & Environment, commissioned with the opinion preparation, will then develop concrete suggestions for emergency sealing, greening and structural adjustments . The aim is to adapt the strongly sealed and heat -laid quarters to the consequences of climate change.
"The climate report for the PAMO is intended to show possibilities of how the quarters can be further developed in terms of climate adjustment and can therefore be upgraded," explains planning and climate protection department . The focus is on heat and heavy rain prevention and an expansion of the city grass for the citizens. Local companies should also be sensitized by the project to implement measures in the building and property area.
Financing and data protection
The report is financed with funds from the federal-state program "Social Cohesion" and own funds of the science city of Darmstadt. Information on the project and information on data protection as part of the thermal base can be called up online at
