Submissions will be accepted from October 1st via the central building portal of Hesse
Further building permit applications in Darmstadt can now be submitted digitally via the central Hessian building portal (DigiBauG). Since October 1, 2026, this applies, among other things, to certain building projects not requiring a permit, demolition notifications, and exemptions from permit requirements. The previous option of submitting the relevant documents in paper form is no longer available.
“With the fully digital submission of further building permit applications, we are continuing the consistent modernization of our building administration,” explains Head of Construction Paul Georg Wandrey. This means that applications and notifications can now be submitted centrally, digitally, and without any media breaks to the building authority by building owners and planners.

The new digital submission process applies to building projects exempt from permitting under Section 63 of the Hessian Building Code (HBO), insofar as notification is required. It also applies to the demolition and removal of structures under Section 63a HBO, provided these projects are subject to notification. Furthermore, it covers exemptions from permitting under Sections 64 and 64a HBO, including the necessary building documents.
In Darmstadt, building permit applications have been submitted exclusively digitally via the Hesse building portal since October 1, 2025. The state of Hesse is continuously developing this digital process. The goal is a fully digital processing of building permit applications and standardized data exchange between applicants, planning offices, and building authorities.
Additional regulations apply to demolition projects
The city points out that the fact that demolition and removal projects do not require a permit does not mean that other public law regulations do not apply. For example, interests related to the protection of historical monuments, nature, or species may be affected.
For demolition projects requiring notification, a statutory deadline must also be observed. The notification must be submitted to the building authority at least one month before the planned demolition.
