CSD Darmstadt 2026: Parade starts on August 15th

Parade, stage program and symbol of diversity on August 15th

Under the motto "Show yourself. For all of us," the Christopher Street Day (CSD) will take place in Darmstadt on Saturday, August 15, 2026. The parade will start at Karolinenplatz after the opening ceremony at noon. Afterwards, visitors can enjoy a stage program there, before the CSD concludes in the evening with an after-show party at the Centralstation.

The science city of Darmstadt is participating in this year's demonstration with its own walking group and will also be represented with an information stand on Karolinenplatz. Mayor Hanno Benz has once again assumed patronage of the event.

The Darmstadt CSD is organized by the association Vielbunt eV together with numerous volunteers.

The parade starts at Karolinenplatz

The groups for the CSD parade will begin assembling on Saturday at 10 a.m. At noon, Mayor Benz will open Christopher Street Day with a welcoming address. The demonstration will then proceed from the front of Karolinenplatz, in front of the State Archives.

The parade is expected to arrive back at Karolinenplatz around 2 p.m. The stage program begins there at 3 p.m. The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and research, will also be represented with its own stand, offering interactive activities and opportunities for exchange.

The CSD after-show party at Centralstation will conclude the event starting at 11 pm.

Darmstadt sets an example for diversity and democracy

For Mayor Benz, the Christopher Street Day (CSD) is also a public commitment to human dignity, freedom, and an open society. "Darmstadt should continue to be a city where all people can be themselves without fear and love whomever they want," the mayor explained.

In light of the attack in Berlin, it is particularly important not to be intimidated by hatred and violence. Rainbow flags have been flying in front of Darmstadt's town hall since July 26th.

“Showing up, taking a stand, and standing up for one another is a powerful expression of solidarity,” said Benz. The city wants to take to the streets for freedom and democracy together with as many people as possible at Christopher Street Day.

Security measures at the CSD have been increased

Vielbunt eV has increased security measures for this year's Christopher Street Day (CSD) in close coordination with the public order office and the city and state police. These measures include, among other things, certified access barriers and cordons in the Herrngarten park.

The additional measures are intended to protect the event area while also enabling the safest and most carefree visit possible.

“Our common goal is to make the CSD a peaceful, diverse and open festival, while at the same time doing everything necessary to ensure that people in our city can feel safe,” explains Head of Public Order Paul Georg Wandrey.

Commemoration of the Christopher Street Uprising

Christopher Street Day commemorates the events of June 28, 1969, in New York City. Following repeated violent police raids on bars frequented by gay and transgender people, protests against police brutality and discrimination erupted around Christopher Street in the Greenwich Village neighborhood.

These events are considered an important milestone in the modern queer civil rights movement. Today, Pride events stand for the rights of queer people, as well as for diversity, equality, and an open society.
