Improved paths for bike, foot and car - 8.9 million euros investment volume
The city of Darmstadt has started the expansion of the Jägertorstraße between Bartningstraße and Kranichsteiner Straße. The construction work started on April 1, 2025 and are scheduled to take around two years. This was announced by mobility director Paul Georg Wandrey at a press date.
The Jägertorstraße , as Kreisstraße K 178 , is an important connection axis between the districts of Kranichstein and Arheilgen . The aim of the measure is to have a comprehensive modernization of the road- including new walking and cycle paths, improved traffic safety and more efficient development of neighboring residential areas.
"The new planning takes into account the needs of all road users - pedestrians, cyclists and car drivers," said Wandrey. "Even if the construction period is challenging, the city and residents benefit from more security and mobility in the long term."

The roadway has a width between 5.50 and 7.50 meters , cycle paths are usually 1.85 meters wide , the walking and cycle paths in the combined area up to 3 meters .
Construction process and diversion
The first construction phase from the Bartningstraße junction to Waltherstrasse lasts around 11 to 13 weeks . This is followed by the expansion of the Ruthsen-/Mühlbach takes about six months In the meantime, sections are fully blocked , but walking and cycle paths usually remain passable .
- Derinations for car traffic : large -scale via Bartningstrasse
- Tram traffic : remains maintained consistently
- Public transport bus lines : only affected in sections
