Government offices and advice centers provide families with information about support services directly on site
Information on financial assistance, childcare, and social support services will be available at the next Family Information Day in the City of Darmstadt. Families can receive advice at the Vivarium Zoo on Saturday, August 22, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Registration is not required.
With its Family Information Day, the city is pursuing a deliberately low-threshold concept: Advice is to be offered where families already spend their free time. Various authorities and institutions will therefore be available directly in the Vivarium to answer personal questions.
“We want to reach families where they are – easily, without barriers, and right in the middle of their everyday lives,” explains Mayor Barbara Akdeniz. The family information day at the Vivarium Zoo is a good example of this: “Information and advice come to the families, not the other way around.”
Multiple contact points in one location
The job center, the office for social affairs and prevention, the housing benefit office, the family benefits office, the family center and the childcare department are represented at the family information day.
Families can thus find information on various aspects of everyday family life in one place. This includes financial benefits and social assistance, as well as questions about childcare. At the same time, they have the opportunity to discuss personal concerns directly with the relevant contact persons.
“Finding information where families spend a good time is a good idea and I hope that many will take advantage of the advice,” says City Treasurer André Schellenberg.
Part of Darmstadt's child poverty strategy
The Family Information Day is part of the child poverty strategy of the science city of Darmstadt. Its aim is to make existing support services for families more visible and to reduce barriers to access.
