Telekom plans to connect more than 12,000 households
Fiber optic network expansion has begun in Weiterstadt. The official start took place on Tuesday with a symbolic groundbreaking ceremony together with Mayor Niklas Gehnich, representatives of Deutsche Telekom and Kocamann Bau GmbH.
According to the city, around 12,140 households and businesses will benefit from the new fiber optic network in the future.
Expansion planned until 2029
Deutsche Telekom plans to lay more than 83 kilometers of fiber optic cable into buildings and to build 143 new network distributors.
The completion of the work is currently scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2029.
The new network should make internet speeds of up to 1,000 megabits per second possible in the future.
The city sees fiber optics as an important location factor
Mayor Gehnich emphasizes the importance of high-performance internet connections for households and businesses.
“Fiber optics is the technology that meets the increasing demands of the digital world today and in the future,” explains Gehnich.
A stable broadband supply has become an important location factor and also plays a central role in working from home.
Expansion in several construction phases
The city of Weiterstadt and Telekom are working closely together on the expansion, according to their own statements. To minimize disruption for residents, the expansion will be carried out in phases.
Furthermore, transparency and professional construction site management should be the focus during the construction phase.
