Optimized operational procedures and investments in climate protection improve conditions for the volunteer fire department
The Eberstadt volunteer fire department now has a newly designed forecourt. The construction project was officially inaugurated on Thursday (May 22) by Mayor Hanno Benz and City Councilor Paul Georg Wandrey. The redesign aims to optimize operational logistics and creates additional storage space.
“With the redesign of the site and the creation of a separate entrance and exit, we are significantly strengthening the fire station in Eberstadt. At the same time, we are underscoring the central role of the volunteer fire departments for fire protection in Darmstadt and its districts,” Benz and Wandrey jointly explained.
Improved infrastructure for greater security
The work included the legally required second access road, the construction of two new garages which will serve as storage space and relieve pressure on the existing vehicle depot. In addition, the electrical distribution system was modernized, new bicycle parking spaces were created, new exterior lighting was installed, and the garage roof was planted with greenery.
“This measure significantly improves the infrastructure of the Eberstadt fire department and was efficiently implemented by the city's real estate management department, IDA,” said City Treasurer André Schellenberg. The decision to implement the measure was made by the IDA operating committee on December 11, 2023.
The total cost of the project amounts to 530,000 euros , of which 60,000 euros were specifically invested in climate protection , including through green roofs.
