The updated application provides information about dangerous products and new warning messages
Consumers will soon be able to find out about food recalls and potential health risks even more easily. The government app "lebensmittelwarnung.de" has been redesigned and now clearly indicates new and subsequently updated warnings. This was announced by the Darmstadt Regional Council (RP Darmstadt), which manages the platform for the state of Hesse.
The free app provides information on product recalls and warnings for food, cosmetics, and other consumer products. The new version is designed to allow users to more quickly see what information has been added since their last visit.
Instantly recognize new and updated alerts
A key change concerns the labeling of alerts. Newly posted and previously unread alerts are now marked with the label "NEW" in the app.
If previously read messages have been subsequently supplemented with further information, the label "UPDATED" appears.
This makes it easier for consumers to understand which recalls are new and which important details have changed in previously known warnings.
The Darmstadt Regional Council recommends installing the app on your smartphone to stay informed about current product recalls.
It's not just food that can be affected
The government platform does not exclusively provide information about foods that may pose health risks.
Warnings about questionable cosmetics and so-called everyday items are also published. These include, for example, dishes or clothing.
To make it easier to navigate, the warning messages can be filtered by federal state and product category, among other things. Those primarily interested in recalls in Hesse can narrow down the displayed information accordingly.
Official information from a government source
The revision also makes it clearer that "lebensmittelwarnung.de" is an official government information service.
“Anyone who has our app on their smartphone automatically receives reliable information on all recalls and products that pose a health risk, first-hand and in real time,” explains Dr. Tobias Lackner, head of the consumer protection department at the Darmstadt Regional Council.
The platform is intended to be a reliable point of contact for consumers who want to find out about potential risks when buying and using products.
The app and website are free and ad-free
Both the app and the website of the same name can be used free of charge. No advertising is displayed on either platform.
The information is also available via the internet without installing the app.
