Information event on nursing professions at the Groß-Gerau municipal job center
On January 29th, the Skilled Workforce Unit of the Municipal Job Center of the Groß-Gerau District (KJC), in cooperation with the district's social planning department, the Federal Office for Families and Civil Society Tasks (BAFzA) and the Darmstadt Academy for Nursing and Social Professions, held an information event on nursing professions, using a proven format for career orientation for interested recipients of citizen's benefits.
Under the motto "Together we can make a difference – for the skilled workers of tomorrow, for nursing care, and for the people who depend on it," Fatima Talib, from the KJC's specialist unit for securing skilled workers, welcomed the participants. At the beginning of the event, she emphasized the multifaceted nature of the profession, which extends far beyond simply providing care for those in need, but rather encompasses the support and guidance of individuals on their path to improved health, a better quality of life, or through difficult times.
Stefanie Steinfeld from the district's social planning department introduced the participants to the topic interactively with an initial information input, presenting the wide range of fields of activity from outpatient household help to nursing professional, illustrating the opportunities for career changers and outlining the offers for further training.
Building on this, Urs Georg from the Federal Office for Families and Civil Society Tasks (BAFzA) focused his presentation on the training path and introduced training content as well as different training formats.
Ursula Günschmann, head of the nursing department at the Academy for Nursing and Social Professions Darmstadt, outlined the career opportunities in the field using real professional biographical case studies and concluded by leading the active question and discussion session with the audience.
Overall, the event offered participants a good insight into the nursing profession, ranging from personal and educational requirements to access, qualification and earning opportunities, as well as the specific challenges, which were not left unmentioned.
Elke Rothenheber, Head of the ‘ Labor Market and Integration’ Department at the Groß-Gerau District Municipal Job Center, draws an initial conclusion: “The information event has perfectly fulfilled its function of comprehensively informing our interested benefit recipients about the diverse career opportunities in nursing.” This was evidenced not only by the interested questions during the event, but also by the numerous bilateral discussions with the expert speakers, the training coach from the employer service, and the integration specialists present after the event.
The first registrations for the nursing fair on February 5, 2025 at the vocational schools in Groß-Gerau have already been made on site.
