Swimming school Swim Active and VVV Goddelau finance new display for time, temperature and current information
The Goddelau outdoor swimming pool in Riedstadt once again has a clearly visible clock. Thanks to a donation from the Swim Active swimming school and the Goddelau Tourism and Beautification Association (VVV), a new LED display has been installed on the tower of the pool at Weidstraße 35. It will now show not only the time, but also the air and water temperatures, as well as other information for swimmers.
“However, we can also use a treadmill to indicate the upcoming closing time for swimming or a closure due to thunderstorms, or announce the date for a beach volleyball tournament or the dog swimming event,” explains Sascha Schmidt from the swimming pool team.
Replacement for the old savings bank clock
A new clock had been on the wish list of the swimming pool staff and many visitors for quite some time. The previous clock, donated by the savings bank, had repeatedly broken down due to its age and finally had to be dismantled in 2023.
As a temporary solution, the pool staff repeatedly attached a smaller clock to the garage for the pool vacuum cleaner at the swimming pool. However, it was particularly difficult for early morning swimmers to read the time from there.
Seeking a long-term solution, the swimming pool team approached potential sponsors. The Swim Active swimming school provided the majority of the funding, while the Goddelau Tourist Association (VVV Goddelau) contributed the remaining amount.
Support from the swimming school and VVV
“We’ve been training here for so long and so often that we were very happy to support them,” explains Dorota Bayram, owner of the Swim Active swimming school. The children also kept asking during their swimming lessons how much longer they could swim.
The VVV Goddelau also quickly decided to participate. "It was immediately clear to us that we would of course participate and contribute the rest," reports club chairman Werner Amend.
Mayor Marcus Kretschmann, together with Head of Finance Alexander Schaper and Head of Real Estate and Contract Management Inna Wedel, thanked the two sponsors for their support during a site visit.
Easily readable even in sunshine
For the installation, the aging clock on the tower overlooking the sunbathing lawn was removed. On this occasion, the tower received its first fresh coat of paint from the swimming pool team.
The new LED display is oriented towards the swimming pool and is easily visible from all sides of the pool. Its lighting is designed so that the time and information remain legible even in direct sunlight.
The display should be able to fully utilize its additional information capabilities for the upcoming bathing season.
