Together for a sustainable and liveable city
With these words, Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau addresses the residents of Groß-Gerau:
Dear citizens of Groß-Gerau,
A year full of events, challenges, and valuable encounters lies behind us. Just over nine months ago, I took office as mayor, determined to work with you to make Groß-Gerau a more livable and sustainable place. I have been deeply impressed by the solidarity and strong commitment of so many citizens. Your dedication – whether through volunteering, neighborly assistance, or constructive ideas – is an indispensable contribution to our town. For this, I thank you most sincerely.
Like many municipalities in Germany, we are facing major financial challenges. Rising costs for energy, services, and wages, as well as new legal requirements, are putting a considerable strain on our budget – often without sufficient support from the federal and state governments.
Despite these challenging circumstances, I am convinced that we can find solutions together. I am working with politicians and administrators to develop a sustainable strategy for Groß-Gerau. However, we must be prepared for the fact that some familiar municipal services cannot be maintained to the same extent as before.

Let's show the red card to those who constantly criticize or speak ill of others, thereby behaving disrespectfully towards them. These people contribute nothing to improvement; on the contrary, their destructive behavior achieves precisely the opposite.
It is particularly important to me to recognize those who dedicate themselves to our community. Volunteer work in clubs, social projects, or neighborhood support is an indispensable pillar of our city. Their commitment demonstrates what we can achieve together.
Constructive criticism and new ideas are equally valuable. Through respectful collaboration, we can not only overcome challenges but also seize new opportunities. Let's focus on how we can move Groß-Gerau forward together.
My goal for the coming year is clear: I will dedicate myself fully to making our city sustainable, livable, and future-proof – even in challenging times. One thing is paramount for me: preserving and strengthening democracy. Democracy thrives on participation, dialogue, and respectful coexistence. It is not something to be taken for granted, but rather an achievement that deserves our special attention. Let us walk this path together and actively shape and protect the values of our democracy.
