Open chess tournament brings together players from the region
Tobias Makilla of SC Hattersheim won the Groß-Gerau open city chess championship. The chess club SV 1946 Groß-Gerau hosted the long-standing tournament last weekend in its club premises on the top floor of the old district court building.
From Friday to Sunday, a total of five rounds were played according to the Swiss system. The city championship is an open tournament, meaning that not only residents of Groß-Gerau or members of the local chess club can participate, but also chess players from outside the area.
Winner remains without a loss of points
Tobias Makilla of SC Hattersheim won the tournament without dropping a single point. Wander De Gersem of the host club SV 1946 Groß-Gerau took second place, while his teammate Jacob Pursche finished third.
SV 1946 Groß-Gerau offers opportunities to play chess even outside of tournaments. Regular chess nights take place on Fridays from 7 pm. Interested players are welcome. For young players, the club offers youth training on Saturdays from 1 pm.
