The municipal works department is cleaning the parking lot at Storkenbrünnchen
Storkebrünnchen was once a popular destination for day trips near Darmstadt-Arheilgen. It likely owes its name to a nearby spring or well. During its heyday as a meeting place for hikers and nature lovers, it attracted many visitors who took advantage of its idyllic location. Today, however, the site is empty and increasingly neglected.
On February 11, 2025, the municipal works department a special operation to clear the Storkebrünnchen parking lot of illegally dumped waste. Due to the large amount of construction debris, bulky waste, and other refuse, a comprehensive cleanup operation was necessary. A total of nine employees worked for two hours to clear the area. According to a press release from the city of Weiterstadt , among other things, a truckload of construction debris, a trailer full of bulky waste, used tires, and half a skip filled with garbage and garden waste removed and taken to the Aust company.
Mayor Ralf Möller emphasized the significant effort involved in the operation: "It was a considerable undertaking, but now the parking lot is clean and safe for all visitors again. Illegal dumping harms the environment and the image of our community. We are doing everything we can to counteract such incidents."
Despite the clearing of the premises, the site of the once bustling restaurant remains a problem area. It is repeatedly misused as a dumping ground for garbage . The city administration points out that illegal waste disposal is a criminal offense . Anyone wishing to dispose of waste properly can use the municipal recycling centers or inquire about the city's other services.
