Young talents showcase their skills – Mayor Benz opens the event
An evening full of swing, groove, and musical diversity awaits the audience at the Darmstadt school bands' jazz concert on Tuesday, May 20, 2025, at the Centralstation Darmstadt . Four secondary schools from the city – the Justus-Liebig-Schule, the Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium, the Viktoriaschule, and the Edith-Stein-Schule – will present their talented jazz ensembles. The concert begins at 7:30 p.m. , with doors opening at 6:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The event will be opened by Mayor Hanno Benz . Each school band will have approximately 20 minutes to captivate the audience with their own style and repertoire. The concert is directed by renowned Darmstadt music educators who significantly shape jazz education at their schools.
- Christoph Schöpsdau (Justus-Liebig-School): Pianist, composer and winner of the hr-Bigband competition.
- Uli Partheil (Ludwig-Georgs-Gymnasium): Darmstadt Jazz Prize winner and lecturer of Jazz Conceptions.
- Eduard Kraft (Viktoriaschule): Dedicated musician and promoter of young musical talent.
- Oliver Nickel (Edith-Stein-School): Conductor with an international reputation in the field of wind orchestras.
With a varied program and passionate stage presence, the concert offers an exciting insight into Darmstadt's vibrant up-and-coming jazz scene .
