Free service launched for citizens with limited mobility
library courier service on Friday (22nd) – a free delivery service for citizens with limited mobility within the city. The service is sponsored by the Darmstadt City Library together with the Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation and the Volunteers for Darmstadt Association.
"Whether permanently or temporarily: Anyone who cannot leave their home or can only do so with great effort will have books, audiobooks, films, and more delivered to their home. The library courier is a good example of how social participation can be made possible practically and directly at the local level," explained City Councilor Holger Klötzner at the launch.
The Darmstadt Citizens' Foundation also emphasized the importance of the project: "The library courier not only brings media to people – it brings participation, education, and joy to places where mobility is limited," said Dr. Markus Hoschek, Chairman of the Foundation's Board.
This is how the offer works:
- Users contact the city library by telephone and state their media preferences (novels, non-fiction books, magazines, films, audiobooks).
- The library team compiles the requested media and coordinates the appointments.
- Volunteers deliver the media to homes and pick them up again.
- A valid library card is required.
In addition to the selection of media, personal contact is the focus: the volunteers ensure a reliable handover and create a sense of everyday life and community.
