Anniversaries of Austen, Rilke, Boccaccio and Mann will shape the coming season
Darmstadt. The Literaturhaus Darmstadt is dedicating its upcoming fall 2025 season entirely to the classics of world literature. The focus will be on timeless works and significant anniversaries: the 250th anniversary of the birth of Jane Austen, the 150th anniversary of the birth of Rainer Maria Rilke, the 650th anniversary of the death of Giovanni Boccaccio, and the 150th anniversary of the birth of Thomas Mann.
The program opens on October 7 with Michael Maar's new book about the secrets of literary masterpieces. On October 14, an evening honoring Mascha Kaléko, whose death anniversary is commemorated, will be presented by Volker Weidermann ("If I were a cloud").
A special highlight will be on October 21st : Meike Rötzer and Andreas Skouras will bring Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina to the stage with voice and piano in just 90 minutes.
On October 24 , National Library Day , the Literature House will open its doors to visitors. Local clubs and organizations will introduce themselves and invite visitors to participate in discussions.
