The municipal works department is in constant operation due to rapid grass growth
As the press office of the city of Weiterstadt reports, the current weather conditions are causing particularly rapid grass growth. The municipal maintenance department is therefore currently working harder to keep roadsides, cycle paths, and footpaths clear.
Large mowing and mulching machines will be used to ensure clear visibility and safe traffic routes.
City warns of dangers on work equipment
The city administration points out that the machines can also pose dangers – especially to pedestrians and cyclists.
Especially on narrow paths, critical situations repeatedly arise when people try to pass directly by running machinery.
Stones and trash can be thrown away
According to the city, the rotating blades and flails can detect hidden objects in the grass and hurl them away at high speed.
This includes items such as stones, glass bottles, or beverage cans. This creates a serious risk of injury.
The city therefore asks that sufficient distance be maintained from the work equipment and that eye contact with the drivers be sought whenever possible.
The construction yard switches off the mower when needed
In many cases, the maintenance crew would briefly switch off the mower as soon as pedestrians were spotted. A signal would then be given to indicate when the path was safe to cross.
The city appeals for mutual consideration in order to avoid accidents and ensure the safe execution of the work.
