Children from the model city exchange ideas with the mayor
A visit from the model city "Grünhausen" to the town hall of Seeheim-Jugenheim: Antonia and Frederik, who had taken over the mayor's office in the children's city for a week, met with Mayor Birgit Kannegießer for an exchange.
The two ten-year-olds had been chosen as part of the "Grünhausen" project week at the primary school in the Bergstraße school village.
Election campaign with speeches and voting
A total of 13 children applied for the position of mayor. After written applications and personal speeches in front of approximately 250 students, Antonia and Frederik won the election.
Since the start of the project week on May 4th, the school grounds have been transformed into a model city with a city council, citizens' office, bank, its own currency, as well as shops and restaurants.
Daily life as mayor in the model city
The two children told Mayor Kannegießer about their experiences in office. Their duties included daily addresses to the citizens of Grünhausen as well as organizational tasks within the model city.
For work performed, participants received the specially introduced currency "Grüno", which could be used to pay for drinks or small items, among other things.
Project to promote democracy
Mayor Kannegießer expressly praised the project at the end of the visit.
"Grünhausen is a fantastic project for promoting democracy," explained the mayor. Children and young people can experience there how community functions and what challenges come with responsibility.
