Movement, encounters and public relations work to promote greater understanding and openness in dealing with mental illnesses
Nearly ten million people in Germany are affected by depression – and despite growing awareness, prejudice and stigma still persist in many places. This is precisely where the MUT-TOUR in: Since 2012, it has brought together people with and without experience of depression to travel across Germany together – on tandem bicycles, on foot, or accompanied by horses. The tour combines exercise and community with public dialogue and raises awareness of self-help.
The MUT-TOUR 2025 starts on Saturday, May 24th, in Bochum and ends after approximately 4,100 kilometers and 3.5 months on Saturday, September 6th, in Rostock . A total of around 75 people in 15 stage teams participating – accompanied by about 400 other cyclists and hikers at publicly accessible events.
Annual motto 2025: Self-help in motion
With the motto "Self-Help in Motion," this year's MUT-TOUR focuses on the importance of activity, personal initiative, and exchange. The stage teams inspire courage—for themselves and others. Movement, conversation, laughter, and personal growth are central themes. In many cities, information booths, readings, musical events, and interactive activities will also take place in cooperation with local organizations.
MUT-FASS and the video “Tandem Tales” , which is available on the website and in social media, offer insights into the daily life of the tour
