Prof. Dr. Philip Wenzel takes over the direction of Prof. Dr. Gerald Werner
As of April 1, 2025, Prof. Dr. med. Philip Wenzel the management of the medical clinic I - cardiology and internal intensive care medicine at the Darmstadt Clinic. He follows Prof. Dr. Gerald Werner, who has successfully conducted the clinic since 2005 and built up a nationally recognized center for interventional coronary treatments during this time.
Review of an era - Prof. Dr. Gerald Werner retires
With his decades of expertise, Prof. Dr. Werner significantly the development of interventional cardiology in southern Hesse. The treatment of chronically closed coronary arteries in particular brought the Darmstadt Clinic under its leadership. Hundreds of doctors were trained here, and international congresses also appreciated his experience. Despite progress in prevention, he emphasizes that the danger is still large cardiovascular diseases.
The management of the clinic recognized Werner's contribution to the positioning of the clinic as a maximum supplier and thanked him for his extraordinary commitment. Prof. Werner remains connected to medicine and will work as a consultant for complex coronary interventions at the Frankfurt University Hospital from May 2025.
Prof. Dr. Philip Wenzel brings new impulses
With Prof. Dr. Philip Wenzel wins the Darmstadt Clinic, a renowned expert in heart failure, interventional cardiology and intensive care medicine. Born in Freiburg, the Mainz University Hospital was recently deputy director. It stands for modern cardiac medicine, research excellence and patient -centered care.
Prof. Wenzel plans to expand the existing focus of the clinic - including structural heart disease therapy, telemedicine and close cooperation with resident doctors. The expansion of interdisciplinary projects in Darmstadt - for example with vascular surgery, anesthesiology or neurology - is also concerned.
Science and practice closely linked
Prof. Wenzel is active in numerous specialist societies and is one of the research -strong cardiologists in Germany with over 190 scientific publications. His scientific work focuses, among other things, on systemic inflammation and new therapy concepts in cardiac medicine.
The Darmstadt Clinic sees itself well equipped with the new director for the challenges of hospital reform and future requirements for maximum care in South Hesse.
