The State Orchestra and Opera Ensemble will perform on Friday evening at Georg-Büchner-Platz; admission is free
with an open-air concert on Friday, August 28, 2026. The Darmstadt State Orchestra and members of the opera ensemble will perform at 7 p.m. in Georg-Büchner-Platz. Admission is free.
Under the musical direction of Nicolas Kierdorf, the State Orchestra, together with members of the opera ensemble, will give a preview of the 2026/27 season. The event will be moderated by Orchestra Director Gernot Wojnarowicz.
Open-air concert to kick off the season with works from Verdi to Britten
The program includes works by, among others, Gioachino Rossini, Franz Lehár, Erich Wolfgang Korngold, Nino Rota, Giuseppe Verdi, Leroy Anderson, Benjamin Britten and Pietro Mascagni.
The new season at the State Theatre is themed around the question "If so, then what?". According to the theatre, it is inspired by the Paris exhibition "Renoir and Love," which focuses on relationships, intimacy, and community. The productions across the various departments explore themes of hope, solidarity, and the possibility of a positive outcome.
