Rethinking security – Europe's potential role for world peace.
Lecture and discussion with Ralf Becker.
Ralf Becker, peace ethicist, economist, and coordinator of the nationwide initiative "Rethinking Security ," presents a positive scenario for the year 2040. At its core is the idea of a new European peace and security order – including the proposal of a UN-guaranteed peace zone for countries like Ukraine. The concept emphasizes civil society solutions and advocates a move away from military buildup.
The initiative is supported by several Protestant regional churches and over 150 civil society organizations. Further information and the scenario download are available at: www.sicherheitneudenken.de

Why Civil Resistance Works – The Strategic Logic of Nonviolent Conflict Resolution:
Lecture and Discussion with Stefan Maaß
Nonviolent movements were more successful than violent ones – this is shown by studies by Erica Chenoweth and Maria J. Stephan, which prove that nonviolent resistance was twice as successful as armed conflicts between 1990 and 2006.
Stefan Maaß , peace officer of the Evangelical Church in Baden, presents key findings from the study "Why Civil Resistance Works" and discusses what lessons can be drawn from it for politics, church and civil society.
Background: Darmstadt Peace Alliance
The Peace Alliance is a coalition of trade unions, churches, political parties, associations, and committed individuals. It sees itself as a platform for peace education and for controversial yet respectful dialogue. The alliance condemns the war of aggression against Ukraine as a violation of international law and simultaneously encourages critical reflection on Western military strategies.
