Reopening by mid-August – new paving and more greenery planned
Griesheim. The comprehensive renovation of Pfützenstraße is nearing completion: According to the city of Griesheim, construction work remains fully on schedule . The street is slated to reopen in mid-August 2025.
The final stages of construction are currently underway: signage is being installed, road markings are being applied, and the asphalt edges are being cut and sealed. Work is also progressing on the new parking lot at the corner of Pfützenstraße and Wilhelm-Leuschner-Straße (B26) . Old advertising signs have already been removed and the ground prepared.
Final measure from the 2019–2023 road construction program
The renovation of Pfützenstraße is the final part of the city's road construction program for 2019 to 2023. The construction was divided into four sections – from the junction with the B26 to Mühlenweg. The contracted construction company began the first demolition phase in April 2024.
A key design feature of the redesign is the continuous light-colored paving starting at Pfarrgasse , which heats up less in summer and simultaneously reduces driving speed – similar to what has already been implemented in Jahnstraße and Donaustraße. The sidewalks shared traffic area will be created to ensure the safety of all road users.
In addition, the street will be upgraded climate-friendly measures trees and insect-friendly planting beds will be created where the existing utility infrastructure allows. The parking situation will also be reorganized as part of the work.
Outlook: Renovation of Kreuzgasse to follow
Following the completion of the Pfützenstraße project, the renovation of Kreuzgasse planned. The city of Griesheim will provide timely information about the start of the next construction phase.
