City plans new industrial park following company decision
Reinheim. Merz company withdrew from its originally planned location in Reinheim, the city is looking ahead: The pharmaceutical company has donated the land intended for the new building to the city – thus creating important foundation for a new industrial park
“We are grateful to the management of the Merz company for this generous gift. It gives us a future perspective that we are now working towards with determination,” explains Mayor Manuel Feick . “We will overcome this challenge and emerge stronger from it.”
Even during the initial application phase, the city administration had developed alternative concepts in case the initial site selection was unsuccessful. Following the donation from Merz, Reinheim was now able to directly draw on this preliminary work and revising its commercial development plan .
Parallel to the land donation, negotiations are currently underway to acquire additional land where further commercial developments could be established in the future. The city council has also commissioned a specialized agency to prepare the marketing and development of the donated area.
Mayor Feick sees the development of commercial space as a key project for the future:
"The development of commercial space is a top priority. We want to make Reinheim economically viable for the future and create attractive conditions for businesses. This strengthens not only our city, but also the entire region."
The necessary analyses and investigations be completed by the end of the year. The city plans to present initial details regarding the plans and potential developments in spring 2026.
Despite the change of course, contact with Merz has been maintained. The donation of the land offers Reinheim the opportunity to use the area for its own development goals . "We're not burying our heads in the sand – on the contrary: we see this situation as a great opportunity to broaden Reinheim's economic base and provide new impetus," Feick concluded. He also announced that the last two remaining plots in the Northwest II will be sold to businesses in October.
