From marathon running to triathlon – How a passion was born
In the interview series of the SG Arheilgen Triathlon department, we introduce athletes and report on their sporting careers, challenges, and goals. This time, SGA press officer Kathrin Ortland spoke with Claudia Jehn.
"I never would have imagined this before – now it's so much fun!"
Kathrin Ortland: Claudia, since when have you been a member of the department?
Claudia Jehn: Oh dear, I don't remember exactly, but I think since 2018.
Ortland: How did you get into triathlon?
Jehn: A friend kept persuading me to come along for a swim. I was never a big fan of swimming, but eventually I just gave it a try. It was tough at first, but the group was incredibly patient and motivating. Of course, I also noticed when the others were meeting up for cycling – and at some point, I wanted to join them. So I bought a racing bike. Then it was just a matter of time before I did my first triathlon. I never would have imagined it before, but now I absolutely love it!
From long-distance running to the decathlon
Ortland: What kind of sport did you do before the triathlon?
Jehn: I was part of the SGA marathon project and regularly ran marathons.
Ortland: Triathlon training requires a lot of time. How do you manage to combine that with your job?
Jehn: I do triathlons purely for fun, and it doesn't require any more time than marathon training. So it works out well. There are plenty of training times in the evenings.
Ortland: May I ask how old you are?
Jehn: I am 53.
New sporting goals for 2025
Ortland: What are your next sporting goals?
Jehn: First and foremost, I want to stay injury-free, so I'm setting myself small goals to start with. I want to improve my time at the Heinerman triathlon and, if everything goes well, also participate in the Frankfurt Marathon .
Ortland: Thank you so much for the interview, Claudia! I wish you every success and, above all, an injury-free season!
