Austrian-American duo performs at the Hoffart Theater
The “Gute Stube” at the Hoffart Theater in Darmstadt invites you to a concert with Son of the Velvet Rat on Sunday, October 18, 2026. The duo from Austria and the USA combines neo-folk chanson, Americana, garage rock and dark folk elements.
Son of the Velvet Rat consists of Georg Altziebler and Heike Binder. Altziebler handles vocals and guitar, while Binder contributes various keyboards and percussion instruments as well as vocals. The duo's music is characterized by atmospheric arrangements and stories about loneliness that are not exclusively melancholic.
The duo is currently presenting songs from the "Red Barn Sessions" and the album "Ghost Ranch," released in 2024 on Fluff & Gravy Records. Both releases were recorded at Red Barn Recorders Studio in California. Guitarist Marc Ribot and musician Jolie Holland were among those involved in the recordings.
Son of the Velvet Rat is also known for its wide musical range and dynamic live performances. The duo, whose members were born in Austria and some of whom live in the USA, has already performed on numerous stages on both sides of the Atlantic.
The "parlor" in the Hoffart Theatre
The "Gute Stube" (Parlor) sees itself as an unconventional cultural living room in the courtyard of the Hoffart Theater. Concerts and readings regularly take place in the former premises of a car repair shop, offering a small and personal atmosphere.
Amidst wingback chairs, floor lamps, and 1960s wallpaper, artists from various disciplines perform. This monthly event series has been running for approximately 20 years.
The concert with Son of the Velvet Rat starts at 8:15 pm; doors open at 7:30 pm. Tickets cost between 5 and 10 euros.
