The Groß-Gerau district will provide information on November 10th about requirements, earning potential and the next qualification course starting in September 2027
Anyone interested in a career in childminding can learn about training opportunities at a free online information event on Tuesday, November 10, 2026. Under the title "Self-employed at home: How do I become a childminder?", TagesKids Kreis Groß-Gerau and the educational organization MAZ eV will present the requirements and career prospects for childminding.
The event will take place from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM. Registration is required by Monday, November 9th. Participants will then receive an access link.
Self-employed or employed in child day care
The information evening will focus on the personal, formal, and legal requirements for self-employment as a childminder. Earning potential will also be explained.
This qualification can also be interesting for people who prefer to work as employees. For example, at the TagesKids centers, support staff are employed to cover for other childminders when they are sick. This qualification also provides a foundation for this role.
The next qualification course begins in September 2027
The next free training course starts on September 7, 2027. It comprises a total of 300 teaching units. The basic training takes place over 22 days until the end of March 2028.
The concept is based on the competency-oriented qualification handbook for child day care published by the German Youth Institute.
Requirements for participation include a minimum age of 21, at least a secondary school leaving certificate, and good German language skills (both spoken and written). Applicants are also expected to enjoy working with children, have suitable premises, and be willing to cooperate with parents, the youth welfare office, and the local municipality.
Insights into everyday working life
Anyone wishing to learn more about the profession before the information evening can find testimonials from childminders on the Groß-Gerau district's website. Under the title "Valuable Insights," they share their motivations and daily experiences in childcare.
Further information is provided in a short film about working as a childminder.
