Tension right up to the final stages: SV Darmstadt 98 won their home game against Eintracht Braunschweig 2-1 (0-1). After the visitors took the lead in the first half, the Lilies turned the game around after the break and celebrated a hard-fought home victory.
Both teams struggled in the early stages, with clear-cut chances initially scarce. In the 22nd minute, Braunschweig capitalized on one of their few opportunities: Aydin's long-range shot was deflected and unfortunately found its way into the net, with goalkeeper Marcel Schuhen looking hapless. Darmstadt had to wait until after halftime to find their footing in the game.
Darmstadt noticeably increased their pace after the restart. Their actions now appeared more determined, and in the 62nd minute they scored the deserved equalizer: After a cross from Luca Marseiler, Hornby missed the ball but inadvertently passed it to Isac Lidberg, who slotted it home from close range to make it 1-1.
The match remained hard-fought until five minutes from time, when the decisive moment arrived. Lidberg was through on goal after a long ball, but was brought down by Köhler with a last-ditch tackle – resulting in a red card. Substitute Matej Maglica converted the ensuing free kick in the 86th minute, firing a low shot into the corner for the much-celebrated winning goal.
This victory secures Darmstadt crucial points in their fight against relegation and celebrates an emotional win in front of their home crowd. The best moments and emotions from the match are captured photo gallery
