Public discussion with Mayor Kretschmann meets with great response
Riedstadt-Leeheim. The public meeting at the Leeheim Local History Museum was well-attended and focused on the extensive construction work on the main road through the village. Mayor Marcus Kretschmann answered questions from residents and provided an update on the major project to renovate the road and sewer system in the Geinsheimer Straße area.
The section between Westring and Eisenacher Straße completely closed. Local traffic is being diverted via Westring and Kammerhofweg – a speed limit of 30 km/h . A detour via Groß-Gerau is in place for through traffic, especially trucks.
Concerns about speeding and traffic congestion
During the public meeting, the frequent disregard for the speed limit and the sometimes reckless driving behavior in the detour area were critically discussed. Mayor Kretschmann emphasized that the city police are already taking action: Between June 12 and July 10, twelve speed checks were carried out. Of the 2,162 vehicles measured, 69 received , which corresponds to a violation rate of 3.19 percent .
two traffic monitoring devices were installed between June 24 and July 7 to obtain a more comprehensive picture of traffic volume. 2,975 cars , 128 trucks , and 29 long-distance vehicles were recorded daily Westring Kammerhofweg even 3,077 cars , 277 trucks , and 61 long-distance vehicles . Kretschmann pointed out that LNVG buses are also registered as trucks, and articulated buses as long-distance vehicles.
Other topics: Wrong-way driving, signage and the future of renovation
A resident expressed concern about traffic violations on Feldstraße , where cars are swerving onto the opposite sidewalk to avoid traffic cones. The city administration announced it would look into a solution.
also discussion about a misleading sign pointing towards Riedsee , which was not officially erected. This has since been removed by the city police and the local detour has been updated accordingly.
With regard to the total construction time of five years, Kretschmann expressed doubts as to whether the original schedule could be maintained. The reason for this was the abolition of recurring street maintenance fees : from the second construction phase onward, the city lacks secure financing. While the first section up to Erfelder Straße is covered, the remaining three sections – up to the eastern edge of town – remain unsecured for the time being.
However, the renewal of the sewer system by the municipal utilities and the renovation of the state road by the state of Hesse barrier-free upgrade of the bus stops also still planned. It remains to be seen whether accompanying measures such as new sidewalks , bike lanes , or a reorganization of the parking area can be implemented.
Damaged area at Goddelau cemetery is being repaired
Another concern was the repair of two damaged steps on the columbarium wall in the Goddelau cemetery . Mayor Kretschmann also assured those present that the municipal building yard would take care of the repairs.
