Three birds live in former dirt vulture voliere
Wildruthühner can now be seen again in the Vivarium Darmstadt zoo. Three of these large, chicken-like birds with colorfully colored heads now live in the former dirt vulture voliere, in which they used to be at home.
Origin and habitat of the Wildruthner
The rooster comes from the Halle Zoo while the two hens from a private breeder . Wildruthühner are widespread in North America - their natural habitat ranges from southern regions of Canada to the United States to Mexico . They were domesticated by Maya to create a regular source of food by Maya
Special properties of the Wildruthner
The birds are persistent runners , but spend the night on trees to protect themselves from predators. Male animals can weigh up to ten kilograms , while females reach a maximum of four kilograms A clutch comprises up to twelve eggs , so the Vivarium Darmstadt zoo can look forward to possible offspring.
