Youth development in Griesheim strengthens participation – New seating areas officially inaugurated
Last Friday, the new eight-member youth center council officially appointed at the Blue Box youth center, Geza Krebs-Wetzl , the head of youth services, Christian Grunwald , and Hannah Hager , responsible for the youth center council, presented the elected representatives with their official certificates from the city of Griesheim .
Immediately afterwards, the new youth center council began its work and started with its first joint meeting.
These young people represent the Blue Box meetings.
The following young people will be involved in their respective target groups for the coming year:
- Nicole and Faran for the youth center
- Emely and Zoi for the girls' meeting
- Angelina and Jannik for the Blue Box meeting
- Lazar and Clemens for the boys' meeting
Several members – Nicole, Faran, Angelina, and Lazar – are serving as spokespersons for the second or even third time. The youth center council is formed according to the city's guidelines for youth center councils . Each target group sends two representatives who meet approximately quarterly. Together with the full-time staff, they develop ideas for making the Blue Box more child- and youth-friendly , incorporate suggestions from the groups, plan activities, participate in field trips, and decide on matters such as the kiosk's offerings.
Mayor Geza Krebs-Wetzl emphasized the importance of this commitment during the appointment ceremony:
"The youth center council impressively demonstrates how engaged and responsible young people in Griesheim are in shaping their meeting place. Participation is a key component of good youth work – and here in the Blue Box it is exemplified."
New seating for the café area
Another highlight of the day was the unveiling of new seating in the youth center's café area . This was made possible by €500 Sparkasse Darmstadt , raised through a coffee and cake sale at the spring festival in Griesheim. An additional €259 by the youth center's council during their annual fundraising week .
Sparkasse representative Heiko Dickler , head of the western market area, emphasized the commitment:
“As a savings bank, supporting young people is particularly important to us. We are pleased to contribute with our donation to making the café area more attractive for young people.”
In a joint meeting, the young people decided to use both amounts of money for new furniture. The project was carried out in cooperation with the local carpentry firm Felber an inviting meeting place – designed according to the young people's own ideas.
The Griesheim Youth Services thanks the Sparkasse bank for its support and the Youth Center Council for its continued commitment. This ensures that the Blue Box will remain a vibrant and youth-friendly meeting place.
