The city will present plans for the redesign of the green space on October 10th
The city of Darmstadt, a center of science and research, is participating in the nationwide "Natural Climate Protection in Municipalities" day of action on Saturday, October 10th. At 2 p.m., interested parties are invited to the sports field in the "Im Tiefen See" green space. There, the city will present its planned redesign of the green area in the Pallaswiesen and Morneweg districts.
The city's project team will provide information about the redesign, the planned start of construction, and the construction schedule. Visitors will have the opportunity to ask questions and speak with those responsible.
Information on proper tree planting
Another focus of the event is the proper planting of trees. The Parks and Green Spaces Department will explain what is important when selecting suitable locations and tree species, and what size a tree pit should be.
Furthermore, those interested can learn what conditions trees need for healthy growth and what contribution they can make to the urban climate and quality of life.
There will be a painting activity for children. They can get creative together with a specialist from the Pallaswiesen/Morneweg neighborhood workshop, while the adults learn about the plans.
The green space will receive new sports and play facilities
The planned redesign aims to improve the quality of life, accessibility, and social inclusion in the neighborhood. The green space is envisioned as being divided into three areas focusing on sports, play, and recreation.
In the northern area, the existing football pitch will be upgraded. In addition, a calisthenics park for bodyweight exercises and a covered youth meeting place are planned.
In the central section, a play area is being created with new, partially inclusive play equipment for different age groups. A so-called "play corridor" will connect the various recreational activities within the facility.
The southern part will be designed as a quiet recreation area with spacious lawns, seating areas and nature experience elements.
More than 100 new trees and shrubs
As part of the redesign, 33 trees, 40 large shrubs, and 35 other shrubs will be planted. This additional greenery is intended to improve the urban climate and promote biodiversity.
The fundamental redesign is being carried out within the framework of the federal-state program "Social Cohesion." The federal government, the state of Hesse, and the city of Darmstadt are each covering one-third of the costs. The additional measures for natural climate protection are being financed through a federal funding program.
