Unknown individuals are posing as employees of the energy supplier
The Groß-Gerau municipal utilities are warning residents about suspected fraudsters posing as employees of the utilities or GGV – Stadtwerke Groß-Gerau Versorgungs GmbH (the Groß-Gerau municipal utility company). Their apparent aim is to gain access to apartments or houses under false pretenses.
According to the municipal utilities, several tips were received in recent days from citizens of Groß-Gerau who found the behavior of the alleged employees suspicious.
Pretext: water meters or electricity contracts
In one case, a couple claimed to be on behalf of the energy supplier and said they needed to check the water level indicator. Otherwise, they alleged, their basement could flood. In other cases, individuals stated they needed to check their electricity contracts.
The municipal utilities clarify that no one is currently handling such requests on behalf of the company. Necessary work, such as replacing water meters, is always announced in advance.
The municipal utilities advise exercising particular caution
Furthermore, employees of the municipal utility company can identify themselves at any time with a corresponding company ID. The utility company advises caution if individuals attempt to gain unannounced access to an apartment or house.
If in doubt, those affected should keep the door closed and check directly with the municipal utilities or the police.
