A temporary solution aims to better protect children at two schools
The city of Griesheim is installing a new temporary footpath at the Carlo-Mierendorff-School (CMS) and the August-Euler-School (AES) . The aim is to make the route to school safer for the students and to avoid dangerous situations with car traffic.
The work will take place from July 27th to 29th in the parking lot on the street “Am Schwimmbad” along the temporary building of the August-Euler-School.
Dangerous situations in the parking lot
Until now, cars have used the passageway between the two rows of parking spaces to drop off and pick up schoolchildren. At the same time, this is also the pedestrian route many students take to the school entrances. According to the city, this has repeatedly led to dangerous situations.
Parents and the school administration had repeatedly raised the problem with the public order office. Observations by the public order office and the city police confirmed the described dangers.
Some parking spaces will be eliminated
For the new pedestrian walkway, part of the parking lot will be closed to car traffic. This will result in the loss of approximately ten to twelve parking spaces along the temporary building of the August-Euler-School, in coordination with the district. The parking spaces in the front row on the street "Am Schwimmbad" will remain available.
The city points out that this is a temporary solution. A permanent footpath will be built after the new August Euler School is completed, once the current temporary building is demolished.
