Old and new fruit varieties can be ordered for 15 euros per tree
The town of Weiterstadt is participating in the NABU district association's high-stem fruit tree campaign and is supporting residents in planting fruit trees. Various types of fruit trees, including heritage varieties, can be ordered. The campaign aims to contribute to the protection of biodiversity and the climate.
The trees offered are standard trees with a crown base at approximately two meters high. This allows the areas under the trees to continue to be mowed, for example.
Funding for the first five trees
The city of Weiterstadt grants a subsidy of €20 for each of the first five trees ordered. An additional subsidy from the Darmstadt-Dieburg district reduces the price payable by the buyer to €15 per tree.
Customers ordering more than five trees will pay €35. The price also includes protection against browsing animals and a planting stake.
The city's subsidy applies exclusively to trees planted within Weiterstadt's municipal boundaries. Furthermore, the planting must not serve to fulfill an existing compensation obligation.
Collection and planting in November
The fruit trees will be delivered in November and can be picked up in Weiterstadt. They are bare-root trees. Therefore, the city recommends preparing the planting holes before pickup and planting the trees as soon as possible.
Orders can be placed online via the NABU Darmstadt district association.
