Clubs and fire brigade organize an action day at the weekly market
The district town of Groß-Gerau invites everyone to its market breakfast at the weekly market on Saturday, May 23, 2026. From 9:30 a.m. to approximately 1 p.m., visitors can not only shop, but also enjoy various culinary offerings and interactive activities.
This time the food stalls are located in the area between the town hall and the former Café Heldmann.
Waffles, strawberry cake and antipasti
Among those participating are VfR Groß-Gerau and the Nestflüchter daycare center. Nestflüchter will be offering strawberry cake, while VfR Groß-Gerau will be serving waffles, omelets, and antipasti. Coffee, cocktails, sparkling wine, and wine will also be available.
Fire department presents vehicles and smoke tent
This year's market breakfast is also dedicated to the nationwide day of honor "For you. For us. For everyone", which Federal President Frank-Walter Steinmeier proclaimed on the occasion of the 77th anniversary of the Basic Law.
The Groß-Gerau volunteer fire department is using the event to present its work. For this purpose, the street Am Marktplatz in front of the town hall and city museum will be closed.
The fire departments from Groß-Gerau, Dornheim, and Wallerstädten will be showcasing equipment including turntable ladders, fire engines, and command vehicles. The event will also feature an information point, arts and crafts activities for children, and a bungee run organized by the youth fire brigade.
A smoke tent will be used to demonstrate how limited visibility is during a house fire. "We want to show what happens in a fire and make it clear why smoke detectors are so important," explains Deputy Fire Chief Carsten Kortwig.
More market breakfasts planned
Mayor Jörg Rüddenklau hopes for a large turnout. He believes the market breakfast and the anniversary celebration complement each other perfectly and simultaneously showcase the diversity of the weekly market in Groß-Gerau.
Further market breakfasts are planned for June 27, July 25, August 22 and September 26.
